Aspen Moore has a new life in a new city, complete with a new career. As a personal concierge, she sells her time to those who don't have enough. One of the perks of her business is focusing on other people's lives so she doesn't have to face the demons in her own.
When Aspen's most loyal customer dies and his suicide looks eerily like murder, she anonymously tips off the police so she won't expose a secret she desperately needs to keep. But, murder and mayhem are a bothersome duo and she soon finds herself caught in a web of chaos.
A string of crimes, long enough to make a real detective sweat, threaten her livelihood and ultimately her life. Aspen's only hope to untangle the mess before they cause permanent damage is to track down who's responsible. Pursuing the truth means solving the mystery of a decade-old land deal, while juggling a quirky DJ and his dog, an eccentric paraplegic, a curious set of twins, and a flirtatious neighbor with spy gadgets.

She has one pair of dress shoes from her former life, but now spends most days in her favorite red sneakers, and her snappy blue jeep.

Kelly Cochran keeps the twists and turns intertwined through the story, bringing it to closure only after Amber experiences more danger than she thought would be possible in her new life. This could be the start of a new female-lead detective stories. If there are more ahead, I'll be reading them. Five Stars!

Buying Time An Aspen Moore Novel Kelly Cochran 9780984002610 Books Reviews
No complacency reading this mystery, it kept me guessing until the end and I never did pick out the real murderer. It was easy reading and I liked the main characters. There were interesting scenarios and an unusual occupation that our heroine actually worked at...getting paid even, well not always, it is hard to get money from a dead client. There were some loose ends but of course life doesn't get wrapped up in a neat little package and I do believe there are more books in this series. I read in another review that the clock on the cover will show 1 o'clock for book 1, 2 o'clock for book 2 etc. so it will be easy to read them in order. What a great idea. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it.
I read this when it first came out 5 years ago and have been waiting for book #2. Now that Borrowed Time came out I had to go back and read Buying Time again to refresh my memory. I had forgotten most of it so it was like reading it again for the first time. This is a great series! I hope there are more and we don't have to wait so long for the next one.
Aspen is sheer delight...zany, quirky, and clumsy, but highly intuitive, smart, and more clever than you would imagine, given her other traits. She's definitely someone you'd love to move next door to, as your life would never be dull. It was fun, also, to find one's self a voyeur, peeking into Aspen's thoughts when she became unexpectedly turned on by a lucious male. Kelly makes us feel that we have just become Aspen's BFF, and she's sharing these bolts of sexual energy with us. What woman hasn't had such an encounter? It's the 'nice' girl with the 'naughty' thoughts, only it's someone else, so we can just giggle and enjoy; not reveal ourselves. I just love Aspen's energy!
At first, I thought there's no way that Aspen could have so many crazy things happen to her in one day, as she often did, but upon deeper reflection, I could identify quite a number of days that I have had those days myself...you know, the ones where you go to pour a cup of coffee and manage to break the decanter instead, and while cleaning that up, cut yourself on the broken glass...only to remember a few minutes later that you left the water running in the laundry room sink, and rushing in there to find it running over, and then of course slipping on the water and getting a huge bruise on your arm and hip that you'll have to explain, etc., etc., etc. Yes, Aspen is REAL!
If Aspen Moore becomes a series, I sure hope Peter sticks around, because he's the 'ever there' male rescuer we all fantasize having. He's there when we need him, but is never intrusive, and doesn't look for 'payment.' He's the real deal.
I guess you're getting the idea here...Aspen is someone we can all relate to...half crazy and fully fun. I sure hope she comes back, because I'd hate to think this is a one shot visit! You're welcome in my house anytime Aspen!
I "bought" this book for my because I liked the premise - personal concierge mixing with wacky clients, you know somebody's gonna die and a mystery will get solved. Turns out I could not put it down.
The main character, Aspen Moore, is very likeable, human and imperfect and easy to root for. There's romantic tension between her, her male best friend and a hot attorney who gets her out of jail. She's got an interesting job with quirky clients. Oh, yeah, and then there's that living in witness protection thing.
There are a few parts that are formulaic - she's in serious danger and the bad guy just spills his guts to her because, well, she's going to die anyway - but she doesn't, solves the crime and gets a nice police officer character to look after her. Even with that, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was please she solved the crime and had that nice police officer to help her out - you just know he'll be a repeat character.
I was a bit sad when this one ended - I was very drawn to Aspen and can't wait to see what happens next. Overall, a great, absorbing, entertaining read. Yes I highly recommend this and yes it's even worth buying in real book.
