Who Is Mooma? Tansill Johnson Susan Emery 9781883911782 Books

Who is Mooma is a delightful children's story about names for Grandmothers. It was a little over the head, I believe, for my great-grand-daughter, but she will be ready for it soon. Otherwise, I would have given it a five-star rating. There are other Mooma books to follow which may be wonderful for gifts.

What better endorsement of a children's book than an enthusiastic class of kindergarteners! Oh, they giggled at some of the special names Grandmothers are called, but 28 little arms went into the air at the conclusion of reading the book to them, each child eager to share the name they call their Grandmother(s), and even some the name of their best friend's Grandmother. The children just loved this story, with many of them adding "I just love my Grandmother"!
And what could be better than that!
Who is Mooma is a creative story... my daughter loves looking at the illustrations and trying to remember all the words. I have heard her read the story countless times to her audience of stuffed animals. There is a special bond between a grandmother and a grandchild and this book captures those emotions. We have a special name for my mom too. Also, this book has very creative illustrations that require a little more thinking than the average kids book. Definitely buy this!!!
This is truly a delightful and unique story about grandmothers and their relationships with their grandchildren. It is a fun and clever book to read and re-read with younger children...probably ages 4-8. Some of the story lines and illustrations struck my funny bone..and clearly made me laugh and smile. It had that effect with my grandchildren, also. The illustrations are extremely colorful and really very beautiful. The story and the pictures encourage children to tell their stories about their grandmothers. The book also has a special place to put names and pictures of their grandmothers. so it becomes very personal for them. This is a type of book you might hold on to for life.
This is a winner..buy it and share it with someone special like your grandchildren or your grandmother. I promise good conversation will follow.
I am a former elementary teacher and I would have loved having this book in my classroom.
This story enchants children by highlighting the special relationships they have with their grandmothers. The author talks in a very personal way about children and grandmothers and the bonds they develop. The clever presentation unfolds by discussing funny and very personal names children often use to refer to grandmothers. Some of the discussions made my grandchildren laugh, but all of the discussions made them think ... and sometimes caused them to ask good questions. The book has interactive sections that entice young readers to contribute to the story and to personalize the reading experience. The illustrations use vivid colors and simple visual presentations which reinforce the story line. This is a great "bedtime book" ... my grandchildren have asked many times for the story to be re-read. It makes them feel safe and warm and loved.

STARGAZER
The only bad thing about this book is that my son wants me to read to him every night. The book is about grandmothers and all the fun things kids call them and do with them. It has a great message and the artwork is so imaginative that my son always finds something to ask about. I also love that the book has a place for a picture of their grandmother.
This is a wonderful story to read not only to your own grandchildren but fantastic to read at story time to a group of children as each child can relate. I have purchased additional copies of the book for the baby sitter at my fitness center, the couple who run the child care at church and the day care center where my grandchildren attend. Everyone loves the message that love has many titles.
This is a wonderful story about grandmothers and their special connection to their grandchildren. The story starts out with the many different names that grandmothers can have and a humorous way a child can interpret these names. There are several pages where the child can personalize the book by adding in pictures and names of their own grandmothers. It shows so many ways that grandmothers share, teach, love, and do so many things. It is a book that all ages will relate. . . . children and adults alike. I will be giving copies of this book to several of my friends. A good reminder . . . whatever your grandmother is called, just be sure to say "I love you"! I also loved the colorful and clever way the book was illustrated . . . . . a GEM!
